hum of locusts - tenth of june, 2002

"strange how hard it rains now."~patty griffin

i've noticed that i've been noticing again. its strange how the ability (ability?) to see the shape and texture of the air seems to come when you least expect and disappear just when you were getting accustomed to its company.

the roundness of the pregnant belly. the electricity of a thunderstorm. the intensity of lilac in the evening sky as it casts itself down on the deep green of maple leaves in june. the cool of the seat on the overly air conditioned city bus and the heat of the asphalt parking lot where i'd waited for the bus for nearly an hour. the elasticity of skin.

the world is back to its old tricks of overwhelming my senses while i'm drinking it all in, contentedly and dizzy with the ring-around-the-rosie of summer.

god, i needed this.
