...because when you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worthwhile.~l.m. montogomery, Anne of Green Gables

this morning, after a hurried shower, i went back to my bedroom to find my phone flashing to let me know i had a text message waiting. i was running late, having slept in a little later than i intended and needed to get to my parenting class pretty soon. i knew who sent it and what it said before i picked up the phone...

"EIGHT DAYS [...emoticons]"

in eight days, rachel will arrive early in the morning in boston. i'll drive down and enjoy the sunrise along the coast to pick her up. i might even let myself have a cup of coffee for the ride...probably decaf? of course.

plans for her visit are rounding out beautifully...i was beginning to wonder if she'd get bored here. a day meandering back up the coast to bangor. a day here, in the woods (she'll be the first person i'll share them with and i'm so excited for it!) and maybe over to the eagle's nest for a lobster roll or haddock. maybe we'd take some pictures with paul bunyan to rival those we took all those years ago with the biggest cheeseburger cowboy on pennsylvania route 422, the cadet. oh, and blueberries.

"did you know pei is only 6 hours from here? bring your passport just in case we get crazy, dude."

minutes later, i was booking lodging for an overnight stay on the island! we get crazy really fast, guys.

next saturday morning, we'll get up before the sun again and head north to prince edward island. i'm pretty sure we're going to take a ferry...this is a good year for me and ferries! i have wanted to visit pei for most of my life and now, with my own bosom friend, we'll go there together!

i found a rustic sort of lodge place for a way-reasonable rate...it's a suite, really. 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a deck. we can cook our breakfast and have tea in the morning. we can hopefully catch some of the meteor shower from our deck. we'll be only about 13 miles from green gables and super close to the cape tryon lighthouse and avonlea village,

"can we listen to the audiobook on the way up?" she asked.

i'll download it from audible. what was just a visit focusing on blueberries and lobsters and basically a very extended lady-date has turned into something i've wanted to do for as long as i can remember. i'm super freaking excited!

all these weeks and weeks of homesickness and just general loneliness is about to take a pretty incredible time-out while i spend some time with one of my favorite people. it won't be a long road trip but it will be an adventure. and rachel and i....we love adventures!

xo,

jones
